Dreaming of an Ideal India
India of my dreams

In the year 1990, or thereabout, we had a Mali (Gardener) working in our garden in Phaltan. He was the sole breadwinner of his family. One day, he approached us expressing his desire to embark on a 2-3 month holy pilgrimage. I cautioned him that he would not earn any money during this time and inquired about his financial plans and reasons for going. He replied that he was seeking "Man Ki Shanti" (mental peace).

Embracing spirituality as an Atheist: A journey of meaning and connection

His response left me astonished. Despite being a man of limited means, he recognized the significance of happiness and contentment. This is the India I envision, where each citizen will strive for "man ki shanti." "Man Ki Shanti" is not an escape, but a profound aspiration to align life's priorities correctly. I believe that collectively pursuing our happiness will contribute to a harmonious India. Our happiness hinges on two aspects: personal well-being and a conducive environment. Attaining both leads to contentment and joy. Essentially, an individual finds happiness when secure and at peace internally. This sense of security stems from spiritual growth. Spirituality deals with matters of the soul. Deep contemplation, whether on an idea or an object, causes the mind to concentrate like a laser, leaving behind only its essence or spirit. Engaging in profound reflection fosters spirituality, diminishes greed, fosters inner peace, and cultivates happiness. This approach enables us to focus on broader and nobler objectives, reduces anxiety and stress, and fosters a positive outlook on life.

I consider nation-building as the creation of a conducive environment. A pleasant environment contributes to our happiness, instills a sense of belonging and pride, and fosters a feeling of ownership. By establishing enjoyable and positive surroundings in our workplaces and homes, we can transform India into a wonderful place to reside. Therefore, each of us should strive to enhance our immediate environment to make it cheerful and welcoming. This way, we can genuinely take pride in being part of the India of my dreams. India is blessed with vast land, favorable weather, and diligent, intelligent people. What it lacks is leadership to inspire and guide citizens to work towards higher goals. This was exemplified by Mahatma Gandhi during the independence movement. The noble pursuit of independence through non-violence united Indians in selfless work. It is the responsibility of each one of us to educate children and youth on ethics, sustainability, and spirituality. Therefore, I believe that by collectively striving for the greater good of promoting happiness and well-being, rather than propagating fear-driven divisions, we can unleash the creative potential of Indians and help shape India into a pleasant and exceptional place to live and work. That is the India of my dreams. Authored by: Anil Rajvanshi

Embracing Spirituality as an Atheist: A Journey of Meaning and Connection
In a world where faith and skepticism often define perspectives, the phrase "spiritual atheist" may appear contradictory at first glance. Embracing spirituality without adhering to beliefs in gods or the supernatural confronts conventional ideas about delving into the profound aspects of human existence. For those who describe themselves as spiritual atheists, it involves discovering significance, forging connections, and experiencing a deep sense of amazement in a universe that houses many ener

Gardening: A Therapeutic Escape from Urban Life
A former colleague in a new job found she had to commute two plus two hours daily, a total of four hours, just to get to her workplace and back, taking three different modes of transportation, leaving home at 7:45 am and returning after 9:00 pm. Initially distressed and tired, she soon found a way to boost her spirits. In her modest home in Delhi, on the rooftop, she began to grow flowering and other plants in pots, tending them either before leaving for work or after reaching home late at night. Flowers are restful to look at. They have neither emotions nor conflicts, points out Sigmund Freud.

Shiva: From 'I' to 'We' – The Journey Beyond Self
In the silence between two heartbeats, in the stillness behind a thought, in the breath that forgets itself—He resides. He is the most disorganised chaos and the most organised order. He is the one who dances wildly in cremation grounds and yet meditates in serene stillness atop Mount Kailash. He is Shiva—formless yet the source of all forms, finite in appearance but infinite in essence.
